CAM – Complementary and Alternative Medicine – Try It, You’ll Like It!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In the past I wrote about the importance of focusing on your nutrition to help heal an injury .  As a rehabilitation counselor, I always ask others about their interest in CAM – Complementary and Alternative Medicine. If CAM is used alongside conventional medical treatment, then the therapy or treatment is used as a complementary treatment. However, if CAM is used instead of conventional treatment, then the therapy is described as alternative medicine.

I believe it’s helpful to add complementary and alternative medicine and/or therapies along with good nutritional habits to your healthcare provider’s recommended recovery program!

It’s very important for me to be knowledgeable about the many different therapies and products that are available. CAM practices are often grouped into broad categories, such as natural products, mind and body medicine, and manipulative and body-based practices.

I’ve used various complementary and alternative therapies; and although what worked for me may or may not work for another, I know many people who have tried different complementary and alternative therapies with great success.

Makes sense to me this type of help would work for others!

CAM may be a foreign subject even though you probably have experienced a therapy in some shape or form without knowing it!

Here’s a link to describe CAM domains and some of the most common examples.   I use my knowledge and faith in CAM, as well as my personal experiences to encourage others to try something new….to help heal your body, mind and soul. I have a lot to learn!  (Acupuncture??) Knowledge is power when in pursuit of health and well-being!

One CAM in particular I’m quite fond of is called Healing Touch.

Healing Touch is an Energy Therapy. HT is incredibly valuable in my life  and I encourage everyone to check it out for their own body. I am a Healing Touch Level 2 Practitioner which means I get to practice a lot!

Recently, I used rosemary essential oil topically and I sniffed it to help work out a pain problem with my wrist. More someday on aromatherapy!!
